Long-awaited Springdale Interchange Opens

SPRINGDALE -- A long-awaited interchange opened in Springdale on Monday. Dozens of cars lined up this afternoon to be the first to cross the new Don Tyson parkway bridge over I-49.

The $23 million project finished ahead of schedule and under budget, and with a Naturals home game on Monday night, plenty of people are already using the I-49 exit. The new route gives drivers direct access to Arvest Ballpark, and all of the prime real estate surrounding it.

"This has been a priority for so long. It's going to help so much with traffic flow," said Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse. "It's smooth, and it's a lot shorter than going around."

"It's a ten out of ten, you know, as far as the ability to really develop and make the most of this beautiful area we've got out here," said Mayor Sprouse. "That right now, is a blank canvas."

After the snip of a ribbon, Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse led the charge of vehicles across the Don Tyson Parkway Interchange.

"It's just great for Springdale, but particularly great for this area of Springdale. Um, I think it just opens up a lot of great possibilities," said Justin Cole, General Manager of NWA Naturals.  "Fourth of July weekend, we could have really used that. We really could have used that, so it's going to be huge moving forward for those kind of weekends."

"It's not only the ballpark but it's the other things that are yet to come," said Mayor Sprouse. "We're going to see this, this area change alot and it's going to mean a lot of revenue for the city of Springdale."
