Mountainberg Police Steps Up Protection for its Officers

MOUNTAINBURG, Ark. -- - These days when police officers put on their badge and uniform they never know what they'll encounter.

"Our citizens can feel a lot better knowing our officers are prepared to handle emergencies," Chief Vincent Clamser, of the Mountainburg Police Department said.

In a second a situation can turn deadly and the first people to respond are usually police officers.

"It happens everyday it seems like in our nation," Clamser said.

Mountainburg Police Chief Vincent Clamser knows the risk law enforcement takes daily.

So, he applied for a grant to better aid his officers by providing them first aid and trauma kits.

"These are tools we've never had before, some officers had to buy them on their own," Clamser said.

Now that the Mountainburg Police Department is equipped with these trauma kits, they'll always have lifesaving tools within reach.

"In case an officer is shot in the line of duty they'll be able to carry this little kit in their pocket. It's got bandages, and quick clot so they or another officer can address the wound immediately," Clamser said.

The grant also supplies new tires for their police cars and law enforcement flashlights.

Chief Clamser says with officer involved shootings  happening often, it's important for officers to have to have these kits to ultimately better protect the community.

"If they're able to apply some kind of medical kit to themselves or another officer or somebody that's out there before fire or EMS show up then it can help save a life," Clamser said.

While Chief Clamser says he hopes his officers never have to use the kits, he feels better knowing they're prepared if anything happens.

"Anything I can do to provide them tools to do their job better and to be safer, it helps me rest better," Clamser said.
