"I foster the senior dogs, the ones that are too sick or that no one will adopt," he said. So Friday when his air went out he and his furry foster family suffered in the almost 90 degree heat.
"Knowing the medication that I am on, they know I can't be in the heat," he said. A friend, worried about about Jesse's health posted to Facebook asking for help.
"Within an hour, I had two air conditioners," he said.
"We have a large following on Facebook, so I took and reposted that - within minutes I got a call," said Centerton Mayor, Bill Edwards.
Mayor Edwards orchestrated getting the air conditioners to Jesse's house and up and running. "My heart is so big it can't fit in my chest right now," he said. "I've lived here 12 or 13 years and I love it. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." Just a little over 9,500 people live in Centerton - but the town's two Facebook pages have about 4,400 followers combined.
"Social media has been great for us..." Mayor Edwards said. "We are real tight-knit and everyone here likes helping everyone out." The city posts everything from job openings to asking for help for people like Jesse. Many times ending with the sign off "thanks, Mayor Bill."
"We have helped hundreds of people over the last four years," he said. "We see a need out there. I repost things and our citizens reply quickly."
Jesse and his dogs, now resting a lot more comfortably in their home, thanks to their neighbors. "A lot of these people have lived here their whole lives and they all know each other and they take care of each other. Even people they don't know they take care of - and that is big."
Big help - and big heart - in one small town.
