FAYETTEVILLE - A Fayetteville man is facing a rape charge, and police say he claims it was a result of a gender identity crisis.

According to the police report, Benjamin Whited, 20, groped a woman while they both were intoxicated, and while she was unconscious. He told officers he gender identifies as a female, and wanted to know what a real woman felt like.

The report says Whited put a pillow over her face to hide himself, but she woke up during the assault.

He is being held in the Washington County jail.
