Police: Teacher Exchanged Sexual Texts, Met Former Student at House

SILOAM SPRINGS -- A probable cause report reveals new details in the investigation of a Siloam Springs Middle School teacher accused of raping a former student.

According to the Siloam Springs Police Department, 32-year-old Mary Faith McCormick had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 13-year-old male. Officers say the incidents occurred between June and August of 2014.

In the report, police said the two exchanged sexual text messages, including McCormick sending the boy a Snapchat picture of her breasts over a period of weeks beginning shortly after school was dismissed for the year.

The teen told police he and McCormick had sex twice. The first encounter took place at McCormick's home according to the teen, while the second happened a few weeks later at the site of a home she was building in Gentry.

On Wednesday, August 13, McCormick was arrested for rape in connection with this investigation.

Siloam Springs Public School Superintendent, Ken Ramey, says McCormick has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

McCormick worked at the Siloam Springs Intermediate School, and with classes starting Monday, the district is preparing to help kids process the news.

"It's just hugely important to me that our children coming back, and their parents trust us," said Ramey.

Superintendent Ramey also said while it's "very upsetting" to be dealing with this situation, staff will be prepared and ready for the new school year to begin on Monday.

McCormick's next court date is set for September 22 and her bond is set at $50,000.
