SPRINGDALE, AR-- Police have charged a Springdale man with the shooting death of his own mother. Officers say they found 65-year-old Frances Rocha's body just after midnight Friday morning in a home on the 3500 block of Loblolly Place in Springdale. Officers were responding to a 911 call from the friend of Rocha's son, Scott. Rocha had apparently told his friend he was going to commit suicide. "Some police officers showed up to do a welfare check," says Springdale Police Chief Derek Hudson."When they looked in, they noticed a large amount of blood inside the home. Mr. Rocha came out of a back bedroom and made contact with the officers. Mr. Rocha said that the blood was from his mother, that he had shot his mother, but that it was accidental." Now, officers say it was no accident. After investigating, they charged Scott Rocha with Capital Murder and tampering with evidence in connection with his mother's death. Police tell us they'll continue processing the scene by gathering evidence and talking to neighbors to figure out what led to the shooting.
