The "Sure Fire" Fireworks Tent in Battlefield started in 2010 after Kelli and Kenderick Stewart's daughter Kali passed away from cancer at the age of five. Their goal is to help others, and a portion of their proceeds go to three local charities in her honor.
"She loved the fourth of July," says "Sure Fire Fireworks" Owner and Kali's Father Kenderick Stewart. "She loved fireworks-- that was something huge she enjoyed."
A picture drawn by Kali is now stamped on Kelli and Kenderick's shirts.
"She had a smile that would light up the world," says Stewart.
One of Kali's favorite things was to see the lights in the sky every July 4.
"Her favorite colors were pink and purple," says Stewart
Kali passed away from cancer in 2010-- two weeks before her sixth birthday.
"We decided, what can we do in a positive light so people will still remember our daughter after she's gone?"
That's where the idea of a fireworks stand came in. Kali is the face of "Sure Fire Fireworks" and her family feels that through her, they can help others.
"We want to give back," says Stewart.
The couple chose three local organizations to donate part of their proceeds to this year-- including The Gathering Friends, Wish I May and The Ellis Fund. Each organization was given a designated day and will get ten percent of the proceeds made during fireworks sales that day.
"It's a big benefit to them, to us, and it feels like Kali's name is still living on," says Stewart.
And as the lights Kali loved so much keep the skies lit this July 4, her memory will be at the top of her parent's minds.
"I think she'd be amazed at how many friends and family members come help us," says Stewart. "And I think she'd be amazed the love that comes out and how many people show she was important and changed their lives."
You can visit the "Sure Fire Fireworks" Facebook page by clicking here. The tent is open daily from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. and until midnight on July 4.
Each year, the Stewarts light a lantern in honor of Kali.
