Hundreds of educators and community leaders showed up to the Jones Center in Springdale today for a special symposium put on by the University of Arkansas. The focus of the symposium is bridging the gap for underserved students. The conference is aimed at making sure every student is up to speed and gets the resources they need to be successful in school.
Organizers for the event say that teaching the communities leaders is the first step in closing the education gap."That's what we wanted to keep doing - not only create an awareness but also make people to commit in order to develop these best practices," said University of Arkansas Latino Program Coordinator, Mirna Ordonez.
Gary Ritter, University of Arkansas Director of the Office for Education Policy, addressed the crowd and Bentonville Superintendent Michael Poore was among the conference panelists.
