The Pulse: New Anti-Smoking Ad Campaign

A new ad campaign by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aims to discourage people from smoking.

Graphic ads showing smokers the disfiguring and devastating effects of cigarettes will once again air nationwide on television. The ads are difficult to watch by design. Smoking cessation experts say it's not the fear of dying that prompts smokers to quit. It's the thought of disability and disfigurement.

Another mass kidnapping has been reported in Nigeria, and it is again believed to be the work of Boko Haram. Local officials say some 60 girls have been abducted from a remote farming village in Borno State after a four-day standoff in which dozens of men were killed. Some of the girls were as young as 3 years old. Boko Haram also abducted more than 200 girls from a school in the same region in April.

The battle between Iraqi forces and Sunni militants intensifies, with conflicting reports as to who's in control of a key oil refinery in the north. The Iraqi Ministry of Defense released video that it says shows Iraqi helicopters, bombing targets in a key oil town to repel an ISIS attack. The state-run news agency says 19 militants were killed.

Move over, Samsung! Apple's iPhone screens are reportedly about to get a lot bigger. Suppliers in China will begin mass production on two new iPhones next month, according to Bloomberg. The phones will have display screens that are 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches across. That is a big leap from the 4-inch displays currently on the iPhone 5S and 5C. Bloomberg reports the new iPhones will ship to retailers around September.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip took a royal visit to the realm of Westeros on Tuesday. The royal couple are in Belfast, Northern Ireland where the show "Game of Thrones" is filmed. The monarch was spotted near the iconic "iron throne," but decided not to sit on it. However, she was given a small model of the famous seat as a gift.
