The Pulse: Veterans Affairs Official Resigns Amid Scandal

A top Veterans Affairs official resigns after a growing scandal over veterans' hospitals in Friday's edition of "The Pulse."

A top official at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs has resigned amid the growing scandal about wait times and care at veterans' hospitals, the department's leader said Friday. News about the resignation of Dr. Robert Petzel, Undersecretary for Health in the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, came one day after he spoke at a Senate hearing about the issue alongside Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki.

Two teens in Southern California were arrested Thursday in connection with two small brush fires in the San Diego area. Police say there is no indication the teens are involved with the huge wildfires that firefighters are currently battling in the area. But officers say they are investigating the possibility.

AAA predicts a near record number of Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend. The auto club released its annual Memorial Day holiday travel forecast Friday. It predicts 36.1 million people will travel 50 miles or more during the holiday. If that holds true, that would make it the busiest Memorial Day weekend for travel since 2005, when 44 million Americans traveled..

Restaurant chain Red Lobster is getting a new owner. Darden Restaurants announced Friday that it's selling the chain to Golden Gate Capital for a whopping $2.1 billion. Golden Gate will have its work cut out for it. Red Lobster's same-store sales in the U.S. tumbled 8.8 percent during the first three months of 2014. It's not clear if Golden Gate plans to close stores as part of the acquisition.

Michael Sam's historic journey in the NFL is getting the Oprah treatment. The Oprah Winfrey Network announced a new multi-part documentary series following his life. It is tentatively called "The Untitled Michael Sam Project." He made history by becoming the first openly-gay football player drafted to the NFL. But the reality show may not be sitting well with his new teammates. ESPN quotes an unnamed Rams player as saying it could cause friction within the team.
