Chelsea Handler said goodbye to her E! hit talk show after a seven-year run. The very last episode of "Chelsea Lately" aired Tuesday night. Her star studded final show included guests like Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Tim Gunn, 50 Cent, Fergie, Miley Cyrus, Dane Cook and Gerard Butler. Handler is taking her act and moving it to Netflix. Then in 2016, she plans to premiere another talk show.
#4: Burger King Merger
It's official. Burger King and the coffee and donut chain, Tim Hortons, are merging. The new combined company will be based in Canada and will have 18,000 locations worldwide. The company says Burger King operations will remain headquartered in Miami. Basing the new chain in Canada allows the company to pay lower corporate taxes, a move lawmakers and the White House have called "Unpatriotic."
#3: Ebola Cases
Ebola's deadly grip on Africa is getting tighter, with new cases and deaths being reported. There's concern about a newly-declared outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with two confirmed cases. Congo's Health Minister says it is a different strain of the disease. The world Health Organization is doing independent testing to confirm the diagnosis. The outbreak started in Guinea and spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
#2: Curtis Back Home
Peter Theo Curtis, the American journalist freed by militants in Syria on Sunday, is now back home in the U.S. His release came just days after ISIS militants executed fellow journalist James Foley. Curtis was held for 22 months by fighters believed connected with the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra front The government of Qatar helped win his release, but says it did not pay ransom. Curtis was greeted by his mother late Tuesday in Boston.]
#1: Ceasefire Between Israel and Hamas
After more than seven weeks of heavy fighting, Israel and Hamas announced a ceasefire on Tuesday. Celebrations broke out in Gaza after the news broke. Unlike the other ceasefires announced in recent weeks, this one has no expiration date. Israel agreed to ease the blockade on Gaza, open border crossings for more aid to pass through and extend the fishing limit off the coast. Both sides agreed to return to Cairo for further talks.
