Top Trenders: Protesters In Hong Kong

#5: Simpson Weds
Ashlee Simpson is a "Mrs." again.  According to several reports, Simpson married "Hunger Games" actor Evan Ross on Sunday night in Connecticut.  Ross' famous mother, Diana, officiated the nuptials, that's according to E-online.  Simpson's son Bronx walked her down the aisle, and Jessica Simpson's children were the ring bearer and flower girl.  This is Simpson's second marriage.  She was previously married to Bronx's father, Pete Wentz.  This is Ross' first wedding.

#4: US Airstrikes Target ISIS
Near the Northern Iraqi community of Amerli, US air-strikes targeted ISIS while humanitarian aid was dropped to the militants' potential victims.  Thousands of minority Shiite turkmen have been cut off by ISIS fighters surrounding that town.  Iraqi aircraft rescued some civilians from Amerli,  as the US, Britain, Australia and France dropped food, water and medical supplies.

#3: Rams Release Sam
Michael Sam's NFL dream has been sacked, at least for now.  Sam made history as the first openly gay player to be drafted to the league.  He failed to make the final roster for the Saint Louis Rams.  Sam's career will likely now go one of two paths, either as a member of another NFL franchise, or he'll sign as a member of the Rams practice squad, which is a group of ten players who normally do not travel or suit up for home games.

#2:  Hong Kong Protesters
Protesters have been demonstrating in Hong Kong today in response to Beijing's ruling on open elections. On Sunday, a committee voted to change the way Hong Kong picks its chief executive, saying only candidates approved by a nominating panel can run.  The city's current leader insists it's a step in the right direction. Hong Kong's "occupy central" movement says it stifles democracy.  The group vows more acts of civil disobedience like this one.

#1: Ten Year Anniversary Of Russian Hostage
Today marks ten years since the beginning of a Russian school hostage standoff, killing nearly 200 children.   On September 1, 2004, armed Chechen rebels took about 1200 students and adults hostage at a school in Beslan, Russia.  When it was over, 334 people were dead, 186 of them children and 700 more were wounded.  The only surviving militant was captured and sentenced to life in prison.
