UA Student Government Votes to Honor Nolan Richardson

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) -- The Associated Student Government at the University of Arkansas is pushing forward with a plan to name the court at Bud Walton Arena after one of the Razorbacks' most successful coaches.

The student senate recently voted 41-1 to name the court after Hall of Fame Head Men's Basketball Coach Nolan Richardson. The 1994 National Championship winning coach's career in Fayetteville started in 1985 and ran through 2002.

"This is what the students want, like obviously we have the back of the fan base," U of A Associated Student Government Co-Director of Athletic Relations Caleb Gray explained. "Since it's been released, they've all been for it. We've reached out to Coach Richardson, and he was very humble and more than happy that this is what the fan base and the students wanted."

Meeting with the University's Athletic Department is the next step, but the decision is ultimately up to the Board of Trustees.
