That's according to the Attorney General. The Washington County Election Commission asked for Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's opinion after complaints in the May 22 primary.
Some voters said they felt like they were being tested or quizzed when poll workers held onto their driver's license while asking for addresses and other information.
Now, election officials will ask for I.D. first, confirm a voter's identity, look for an expiration date, and then hand the I.D. back to the voter.
