General Motors will release details today on the investigation into why it took so long to recall cars with faulty ignition switches. According to G.M., the problem has been tied to 13 deaths, though safety officials and families say there could be more. G.M. says the switch problem was discovered as early as 2004, but no recalls were issued until this year. The car company might also announce how much it will pay the victims' families.
Actor Jonah Hill apologized on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" Tuesday night for using a gay slur during an encounter with paparazzi over the weekend. "If someone says something that hurts you or angers you, use me as an example of what not to do," he said. Hill said he got angry when a TMZ photographer harassed him all day, called him names and made hurtful comments about his family.
Donald Sterling has agreed to sell the Los Angeles Clippers and drop his lawsuit against the N.B.A., according to his attorney. Sterling initially said he would fight the sale of the team he co-owns with his estranged wife, Shelly. Former Microsoft C.E.O. Steve Ballmer offered to buy the team for $2 billon. N.B.A. owners still have to approve the sale. Sterling's attorney did not say why Sterling changed his mind.
A 12-year-old girl who authorities say was stabbed by two friends in Wisconsin has been upgraded to "fair" condition, according to a spokeswoman for the hospital where she's being treated. Officials say the girl was stabbed 19 times. The two suspects, both also 12-years-old, are being charged as adults with first-degree intentional homicide. Authorities say they carried out the attack to impress a fictional online character, known as "Slenderman." the suspects are being held on bail of $500,000 each.
A gunman remains at large after killing three Canadian police officers and injuring two others. The neighborhood is still currently on lockdown. Police say they know who the suspect is:24-year-old Justin Bourque of Moncton, New Brunswick. He was wearing army fatigues and carrying a rifle and is still considered armed and dangerous. Two other police officers were also shot, but their injuries are not life-threatening.
