LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-- - Governor Asa Hutchinson, joined with Senator Missy Irvin and Representative DeAnn Vaught signed SB125 . SB125 establishes a paid maternity leave program for state agency employees.
The bill would allow state employees who have accrued annual leave and sick leave to donate that time to a catastrophic leave bank. That bank will be able to be used when an employee is unable to perform their duties due to a catastrophic illness, including maternity purposes.
Employees eligible are those who have worked for the state for more than one year or was employed by a public school district or state-supported institution of higher learning for more than two years.
Governor Hutchinson said the bill is important because the state has women employees that they don't want to lose. Hutchinson also said the bill will not cost Arkansas tax payers any money.
