Benton County -- The Benton County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday honored employees involved in an armed standoff earlier this year.

In February, deputies and detectives responded to a domestic disturbance on Canary drive, where an armed man was holding two children hostage.
Eventually the suspect released the children, and Captain Nathan Atchison shot the man, and he was taken into custody.

Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck thanked everyone involved, including dispatchers, and gave medals to Atchison and others who were at the scene.

"That night, there's no doubt, that through the teamwork with dispatchers and deputies on scene, we were able to save lives," Cradduck says.

The sheriff also thanked Deputy Jerry Harper, who is retiring after 16 years of service at the sheriff's office.
