Bentonville Hospital Donates Trauma Kits to PD

Bentonville -- Northwest Medical Center Bentonville is partnering with police to put specially designed trauma kits in the first responders' cars.

"The kits include packing, tourniquets, wound sealing, compression supplies and such," says Chief Jon Simpson of the Bentonville Police Department.

The hospital is using state trauma grant money to pay for the supplies. Simpson says the kits aren't meant to replace paramedics, but to give officers a chance to provide immediate care if they are the first on the scene.

"Really that's our goal, to be prepared for the worst," he says. "Obviously, when you're talking about trauma care, it's the minutes and seconds that matter."

The hospital donated 69 kits and the officers who have already been trained can start using them immediately. The rest of the force will get training coordinated through the fire department.
