ROGERS -- The doctor who performed U.S. Senator John Boozman emergency heart surgery now says he should make a full recovery.

On Tuesday, the senator was diagnosed with and treated for acute aortic dissection while he was in town to appear at the ribbon cutting for the Bella Vista Bypass.

"He should be able to return to his full duties without any restrictions in the future,” said Boozman's surgeon, Dr. E.J. Chauvin, in a statement.

According to his office, he remains hospitalized but, on Friday, doctors moved him from the intensive care unit to a private recovery room.

His family says doctors "are amazed at how quickly Boozman is recovering from the surgery" and that the senator has been "walking frequently with the aid of medical staff."
