FARMINGTON-- Northwest Arkansas has seen some serious growth in the past few years. That's especially true in Farmington. According to the Mayor's office, the community has seen a 100 percent increase in population since 2000. Now that growth is spreading to the high school. Construction is well under way for a brand new gymnasium and fine arts center for Farmington High School. The 74,000 square foot facility will house the Basketball Arena, a 600 seat theater, offices and locker rooms. Farmington Athletic Director Brad Blew says the new facility has a lot of potential. "That performing arts center is gonna open a lot of doors where we can bring plays and just do a lot of neat things for our kids and our town." Blew said. "We do anticipate holding graduation in this facility." Blew continued. The complex is phase one of a three part project. With plans for an entire new school in the works. "Hopefully next summer or shortly there after we'll be working towards a new high school for this town." Blew said. For now, the high school has a brand new facility, for a growing student body and expanding community.
