Golfing to Raise Money For Mental Health

- SPRINGDALE -- Hitting the links for a good cause. The Ozark Guidance Golf Tournament is raising money for children's mental health programs.

"We also want to start programs or duplicate programs we've already got that are successful and we want to roll those out to other areas that we cover," said Michael McIntyre, Ozark Guidance Director of Development.

In its 19th year, the tournament's reach is bigger than ever.

"We'll probably have 40 people out there today that are helping with us and our sponsors," said Mike McFarland, Ozark Guidance board chairman and tournament head.

This fundraiser is even more important this year. McFarland says bringing in money right now is not an easy task.

"We're experiencing funding cuts this year, which makes it more challenging us to find resources," McFarland said.

Officials with the nonprofit say funding problems are the greatest obstacle for mental health providers in the state. But the group says they will keep working toward better care for children.

"By working in the schools with the teachers and family, we're able to do early detection and early intervention with kids," McIntyre said.
