Group Makes Final Push To Get Medical Marijuana On Ballot

- ARKANSAS -- The deadline is fast approaching for Arkansans for Compassionate Care to gather the more than 62,000 signatures it needs to guarantee a spot in the general election.

Over 100 volunteers have spent the past week outside of libraries, post offices and parking lots across the state. During the weekend, the campaign collected more than 11,000 signatures. But it still has a long way to go.

"We're praying it will give us enough to put us over the top. Right now, we don't have enough," said Melissa Fults, campaign coordinator for Arkansans for Compassionate Care.

Even with more folks coming out to help the cause, Fults wishes they could have had out their message sooner.

"We've probably had 40 new volunteers get involved. But it's really sad that they just found out about us," Fults said.

The group must have signatures turned in to the Secretary of State's office by 5 p.m. Monday.
