The Arkansas House failed the appropriation on Wednesday in a 68-27 vote and 70-27 on Tuesday. The House needs three-quarters majority for passage. 25 no votes is down from 27 Wednesday but the House must approve Senate bill by Friday.
On Tuesday, House Speaker Davy Carter remarked, "We'll vote everyday - majority aren't going to let a minority of lawmakers dictate this." Carter said Wednesday the house will vote again Thursday at 1:30p and he is "100% it will pass."
According to the Department of Health, 96,950 people gained health care coverage through the Private Option as of Feb. 6. Of those enrolled so far, 87,061 were covered by a private health insurance plan and 9,889 had been determined to be better served by the traditional Medicaid program because of exceptional health care needs.
