KNWA via NBC -- Unexplained rash and itch? Check your iPad. The popular tablet computer may contain nickel, according to NBC News, one of the most common allergy-inducing metals.

In fact, recent medical journals report nickel allergies resulting from any number of electronic devices, including laptops and cellphones. Recently, an iPad caused an itchy body rash on an 11-year-old San Diego boy.

Nickel rashes aren't life-threatening but they can be very uncomfortable, and they may require treatment with steroids and antibiotics if the skin eruptions become infected, said Dr. Sharon Jacob, a dermatologist at Rady Children's Hospital, where the boy was treated.

Apple did not comment on which iPad models may contain nickel.
