In this week's KNWA & Your Family, children's food allergies cost the health care system almost 25 billion dollars a year. That's according to a new study that surveyed parents around the country who had at least one child with a food allergy. Researchers found medical expenses like doctor appointments and hospital stays, as well as special foods and accommodations for these children made up for about ten billion dollars of the total price tag. But the largest cost by far was the combined 14 billion dollars that parents gave up by staying out of the workforce so they could manage their children's allergies.
