Major Park in Springdale Receives Donation, Breaks Ground

SPRINGDALE, AR-- A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday for a new park in Springdale. The George family with the Springdale-based company, George's, donated $500,000 to the project. 

The park is named "C.L. 'Charlie' and Willie George Park," after the founders of George's. It's located at the southeast intersection of Don Tyson Parkway and Hilton Road.

The 75-acre park will have lots of new activities for people to enjoy, like a splash pad, dog park, new trails, and several sports facilities for recreation and tournaments. Those facilities include:
  • 4 of Springdale's first artificial turf baseball fields
  • 6 soccer fields 
  • 3 lighted tennis courts 
  • 1 lighted football field 
  • several pavilions
  • concession stands and restrooms
Besides the donation by the George family, The C.L. "Charlie" and Willie George Park was funded the Springdale $71 million bond issue.

It is expected to open in August 2015.
