SPRINGDALE, AR -- One Northwest Arkansas school district is making changes to its spring calendar to accommodate Mother Nature. Springdale faculty and staff voted overwhelmingly in favor of adding two more days of classes.

"It just made sense to many of us that we look at the days ahead of us and try to recover as many of those days as possible," says Dr. Jim Rollins, Springdale Schools superintendent, in a video statement posted on the district's YouTube account.

Students will now attend school on January 6 and 20. Both days were originally scheduled as professional development for teachers, but since the district used all five of its allotted snow days in December, it decided to add a little padding.

"An overwhelming vote supported adjusting this year's calendar [to] kind of get two days back in the bank to help buffer what might be an issue as we go forward into the winter months," Dr. Rollins says.
