SPINGDALE-- Deborah Bradford first moved to Northwest Arkansas in 2005, but not because she had a choice.

"I lost my oldest brother back in New Orleans, I lost my oldest sister back in New Orleans and it's just not the same when I go home.I was just so lost, during that storm. I just-I lost everything." Bradford said.

Bradford came to Springdale to get away from Hurricane Katrina and live with her youngest brother.

She says the community stepped up to help her out. "We needed furniture, and they came along and we had a house full of furniture."

Soon, Bradford was working at Harp Elementary. This is where she first got the idea for her book. They had been studying the story of Cinderella on different continents.

"When we got to the continent of Australia, there was no story. I decided: Well why not write one?" Bradford said.

And everyone at her school pitched in to help "It wasn't a one-man journey, it was a team of us that really got the job done." Bradford said.

When the book was finally published, Bradford was speechless. "The day that it came out, I just kinda sit and stared at the screen and I saw my name and I just kinda sit there, I couldn't move I just couldn't believe it."

Even though hardship brought her to Northwest Arkansas, she says the journey has given her so much more.

"Millions and millions of kids are gonna have the opportunity to enjoy this book, and that's where the joy of it comes in for me. This is about making a difference in the lives of children that's what it's all about."
