State's Education Commissioner Hopes to Lead Fayetteville Schools

FAYETTEVILLE, AR-- Fayetteville school leaders are hoping to close in on the search for a new superintendent. On Thursday, the school board interviewed State Department of Education Commissioner Tom Kimbrell for the job. The search for a new leader started recently when superintendent Vicki Thomas announced she'd be leaving to care for a sick family member in another state. In a release sent Thursday, the district says it's "pleased to have the opportunity to talk with [Kimbrell]" who expressed interest in the position. He's served as the state department's commissioner for the past 4.5 years. He's also been the executive director of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators. He earned degrees from both the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University.
