Walmart Gives $450K to NWA Council

Rogers, AR - Walmart announced a $450,000 gift to the Northwest Arkansas Council Tuesday during the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G.

"At Walmart, we aspire to have impact on society in many different ways," says Kathleen McLaughlin, Senior Vice President of Walmart Corporate Affairs and President of the Walmart Foundation. "We work and live and play here too,and so we're part of this community."

Council President and CEO Mike Malone says this year's contribution is appreciated, but it's just the latest in a partnership thats lasted nearly 25 years.

"This will allow us to continue and even expand some work in downtowns across the region, (and) to make sure that our region is welcoming and inclusive of our growing diverse communities," Malone says. "(Walmart has) supported us in building Northwest Arkansas. They've supported us in growing projects, in growing programs."

Last year Walmart and its foundation gave nearly $17 million to the Northwest Arkansas Community.

"We have a few different priority areas," McLaughlin says. "One is quality of life. As a resident of Northwest Arkansas we want to have a great quality of life for everybody."
