FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- A neurosurgeon set to join Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith was arrested in California in a child sex case on Sunday, authorities say.
James Kohut, 57, was set to join the Sparks Clinic Neuroscience Center, but after his arrest, hospital staff said he is no longer employed with them.
The Watsonville Police Department said it became aware of a "serious sexual assault case" that crossed state lines on May 9. Three were arrested in the case, authorities said. Kohut was one of them.
The FBI and other law enforcement officials are assisting with the investigation.
KSBW reported Kohut was a long-time neurosurgeon in Santa Cruz at Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center and Dominican Hospital.
