ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA) - The city of Rogers is hosting its monthly Art on the Bricks event on Thursday evening. The exposition showcases work by a variety of local artists; this month a group of newcomers will also be featured.
More than a hundred elementary, middle and high school students from the Rogers school district submitted work that will be displayed at the Rogers Experimental House.
Some students did drawings and paintings while other used wood, string or clay as their medium.
Cheri Gideon, an art teacher at Elmwood Middle School, says art programs are essential to education and give everyone a chance to express themselves.
"I find the art classroom involves everyone, some of them are special needs students, we have non-English speakers, we have people who may not fit into the normal after-school activities," Gideon said.
8th grader Taylor Voight says the Rogers art program has inspired her to consider pursuing a career in a creative field.
"I plan on continuing art through high school, I've been looking at college courses throughout summer to do just to see where my art could take me, just to see if it could take me to a future job," Voight explained.
There are more than 25 artists featured at Art on the Bricks, their work will be displayed at a number of downtown Rogers' businesses from 4:30pm to 7:30pm Thursday evening. For more information on the event, click here.
