Competitive eater downs 255 Peeps, breaks world record

Matt Stonie beats his own record by 55 Peeps

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. - Matt Stonie, a competitive eater from San Jose, broke his own record by downing 255 Peeps on Saturday at the second-annual National Harbor World Peeps Eating Championship, NBC News Chicago reports.

Major League Eating said Stonie set a new world record by eating the sugar-coated marshmallow treats in 5 minutes.  Stonie beat his 2016 record by 55 Peeps.

For his efforts, Stonie walked away from the Maryland event with $1,750 and a trophy filled with Peeps, the Mercury News reports.

In 2015, he broke Joey Chestnut's eight-year winning streak at the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, NBC News Chicago reports.

Stonie is ranked second in the Major League Eating rankings.
