Woman Arrested After Police Find a Body on Farm Land in Prairie County

PRAIRIE COUNTY, Ark.-- - (via KARK) -- A New York woman has been arrested in Arkansas amid an investigation into the discovery of a body on a farm in Prairie County.

Police say they have reason to believe the death happened in the state of New York and the remains were taken to Arkansas in a suitcase, which was then left on farm land.

In a news release issued Thursday, the Arkansas State Police says Virginia Colvin, 56, of Johnstown, NY, was taken into custody around 6 p.m. Wednesday at a home in Perry County. She is being held at the Prairie County Jail in Des Arc.

Colvin faces a charge of abuse of a corpse.

The ASP said Michael Strivers is being held in the Lonoke County Jail on charges unrelated to the discovery of the body in Prairie County and is being questioned by State Police Special Agents.

No other suspects are being sought in Arkansas in connection with the case. The ASP Criminal Investigation Division continues working with the Johnstown Police Department in New York to confirm the identity of the body.
