Arkansas Women's Golf At Top Of SEC Leaderboard

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a nearly four hour rain delay it took the fourth-ranked University of Arkansas just over three-and-a-half hours to play the first nine holes at the rain-soaked SEC Women’s Golf Championship in Birmingham, Ala.,  Friday.
The Razorbacks made it through part of the second nine before darkness chased the remaining teams from the Founder’s Course at Greystone Golf and Country Club.  Despite the long day, tough conditions and shortened play, Arkansas leads the field at six-over with about three holes remaining in the first round.
The Razorbacks, No. 6 South Carolina and No. 7 Alabama, all playing together, are the only teams not to finish.  Teams will return to the course at 8 a.m. Saturday to finish the first round.  Teams will be re-paired and round two is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
Sophomore Regina Plasencia leads Arkansas and is even through 15 holes.  She is currently tied for third overall.  Senior Emily Tubert is tied for sixth at plus-one, followed by sophomore Gabriela Lopez who is tied for 14th at two-over.  Both players have counted 12 holes.  Sophomore Gabriela Lopez is tied for 22 at three over through 15 holes and freshman Summar Roachell is seven-over through 15 holes.
The first flight of teams was able to tee off at their scheduled times but overnight rains had already drenched the course before a heavy morning rain suspended play.
