Killian Shines in USA Baseball Debut

WILSON, N.C. – Arkansas right-handed pitcher Trey Killian made a statement in his first appearance for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Wednesday evening.

Killian made the start for Team USA against the Wilson Tobs and dominated in 3.0 innings of work, recording seven strikeouts and giving up just two hits and one run. He struck out the side in the first inning and added one more in the second frame, before ending his stint with a trio of punch outs in the third inning to earn the victory.

“It was probably the most complete game we’ve played so far,” said Arkansas head coach and Team USA manager Dave Van Horn. “They are starting to get to know each other and I can see them starting to pull for each other. That’s the way baseball is, you have to have a little camaraderie and I like what I am seeing out there.”

The offense backed Killian with three runs in the first inning and one more in the second frame as the Red, White and Blue rolled to a 14-2 victory to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Five U.S. pitchers combined to strike out 14 batters while walking just one. Through five games, the Team USA pitching staff has held opponents to a .160 average while striking out 59 and walking just nine in 49.2 innings.

The Collegiate National Team will continue its Red, White and Blue Tour when it travels to Columbia, S.C., on Thursday to take on the Columbia Blowfish at 7 p.m. at Capital City Stadium.
