Lewis Birdies Final Hole Of British Open

SOUTHPORT, LANCASHIRE, UK – Former University of Arkansas standout Stacy Lewis fired a final round 78 in the RICOH Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, Lancashire, United Kingdom Sunday.

Lewis is the defending champion and finished tied for 12th overall after a back-and-forth weekend across the pond.  Lewis shot 71-74-70-78 for 293. She was five-over for the weekend and six strokes off the lead in a very close British Open. Conditions were challenging for all players and despite that fact, Lewis moved up five spots in the final round.

Lewis’ final round saw The Woodlands, Texas, native count an uncharacteristic seven bogeys.  Lewis, however, must have heard Razorback head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor in her head taking her advice to always “finish strong” to heart with a birdie on 18.

Lewis birdied 18 three of the four rounds.  Holes one and three were challenging all weekend as well with Lewis bogeying those locations in three of the four rounds.
