Lewis Vaults Up Leaderboard At NWA Championships

Former University of Arkansas All-AmericanStacy Lewis vaulted up the leaderboard while current RazorbackGabriela Lopez and former Razorback Emily Tubert were solid in round two of the Walmart NW Arkansas LPGA Championship presented by P&G Saturday.

Severe weather suspended the event before all players were off the course but Lewis had a great day with a five-under 66 moving up to tie for fifth place overall.  The Woodlands, Texas, native moved up from a tie for 43rd after yesterday’s 70 and is in the clubhouse with a 136, just four strokes behind the leader.

Michelle Wie leads the field with a 10-under 132 on the heels of her U.S. Women’s Open win last week.

Lopez, a Mexico City, Mexico, native, was still on the course when play was halted.  She opened with a one-under 70 on Friday and is one-over through 14 holes.  She opened with a par, then bogeyed the next three holes.  Lopez rallied with three consecutive birdies moving back to even on the day and one-under for the round.  Lopez picked up back-to-back bogies on 11 and 12 but finished with a par of par holes before being called off the course.

Lopez and other players who did not finish, will resume play in the morning before the start of the final round.  Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m.

Former Razorback Tubert, who is making her professional debut this week, finished with a second round 78 to pair with Friday’s 74 for 152.  She is currently tied for 108th and will not make the cut to Sunday’s play.
