FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football team returned to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday for its second scrimmage of the preseason, completing a 107-play scrimmage that was open to the public.
Venue: Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium
Format: Full Pads
Highlights: Arkansas’ offense was on point today, starting out with tight end Jeremy Sprinkle catching a 45-yard pass from quarterback Brandon Allen… After a bout of fancy footwork, wide receiver JoJo Robinson dove into the end zone for a dramatic touchdown… Sophomore running back Korliss Marshall stole the show as he broke through the line for a 57-yard touchdown run just before the scrimmage ended… Korliss finished the day with 8 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns… Brandon Allen went 19 of 28 for 218 yards and three touchdowns.
Quote of the Day: “I thought for two weeks our guys have taken the attitudes we have asked them to take and today was a nice little cap on a two-week window. I just want to keep getting better and I thought we did that today.” – Head Coach Bret Bielema (@BretBielema)
Bielema on Frank Ragnow and Brian Wallace: “Frank Ragnow and Brian Wallace are going to be two exceptional football players here. They have made a lot of strides in the last two weeks and I have to believe those are going to be two of the best I have ever been around. Just their demeanor, attitude, God given athletics ability and their approach to work is pretty exciting.”
Bielema on Korliss Marshall’s performance: “The sky is the limit for Korliss. He’s an exciting player and I hope he realizes how special he is, because he has been given some things that are not normal in this world and I really hope he understands how special that is and in turn is going to pay that back tenfold because he has the ability to do that.”
RB Alex Collins (@Budda03) on today’s scrimmage: “I think it went well. Both sides of the ball did really well today and we walked off clean with no injuries.”
Collins on Korliss Marshall’s 57 yard touchdown: “You could just feel the excitement, all of the offense, everyone ran on the field. It’s pretty cool to see your teammates succeed out there.”
Defensive line and specialists coach Segrest (@CoachSegrest) on his time so far with the Razorbacks: “Well, I’ve been very pleased so far. We have some great kids that work hard. I have a great coaching staff and I’m very pleased with where we are at this point.”
Segrest on the battle for defensive starting spots: “Those guys have really been competing. It’s always good when you have a couple guys who are battling it out for a position. They push each other, they try to work to get a little bit better and so this scrimmage will tell us a lot. I’m looking forward to seeing the film.”
