FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — After scoring a 195.350 in its season opener at No. 4 UCLA, the Arkansas gymnastics team moved up five spots in the rankings to No. 12 in the latest National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) rankings released on Monday.
The Razorbacks scored a 48.750 in floor exercise and 48.900 in balance beam, outscoring the Bruins by 0.450 over the final two rotations and even led going into the Bruins’ final routine on floor.
Amanda Wellick tied for first place on vault with a 9.900 and placed second in the all-around with a 39.300, behind UCLA freshman and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Madison Kocian. Her vault score is tied for fifth among SEC gymnasts and tied for eighth among all gymnasts in the nation.
Wellick also ranks fifth in the SEC and 22nd in the nation in floor exercise (9.850) and seventh in the SEC and 15th in the nation in the all-around.
Making their collegiate debuts, Hailey Garner scored 9.825 in both uneven bars and balance beam, while Jessica Yamzon scored a 38.925 in the all-around. Garner ranks 16th in the SEC in uneven bars and 19th in the SEC in balance beam, while Yamzon ranks 12th in the SEC in the all-around.
All eight Southeastern Conference teams are ranked in the top 30 of the latest rankings, including seven in the top 14 and four in the top six. Arkansas will face all four SEC teams currently ranked in the top six at home, beginning with No. 6 Missouri on Friday.
Arkansas will also host No. 4 Alabama (Jan. 27), No. 1 LSU (Feb. 10) and No. 3 Florida (Feb. 17). Other ranked matchups include road trips to No. 30 Georgia, No. 13 Auburn, No. 24 Michigan State and No. 14 Kentucky.
