Recruiting Recap: Bohanon, Dunlap & Hanspard all on the Hill this Weekend

Fayetteville, AR-

Our Recruiting Guy Richard Davenport looks back at three recruits who made visits to the Hill over the weekend. Also get the latest on Maureese Wren and Jadon Jackson.

Here's the transcription from that interview:

Drew Amman: "Time now to talk recruiting with our recruiting guy that is Richard Davenport from WholeHogSports and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. A lot to get to as we will begin with three guys who were on official visits. RD let's begin with Gerry Bohanon because Gerry is a guy that a lot of people have been talking about. Number eight as far as being ranked by ESPN as far as a dual threat quarterback. I heard on a visit that he was fed so much he thought he gained like five pounds. Sounds like he had a good time on the hill RD."

Richard Davenport: "Yeah the guys when they are on their officials definitely eat well. Gerry was he definitely took part in that. But anyway he had a good time. He and his mother visited and he really connected really well with the players. Felt really comfortable. Koilan Jackson was his host and they go back a long ways. He said it was good to be able to you know spend time with him. Got a little bit more information on how Arkansas will utilize him and Connor Noland. Will probably have different kinds of packages and things of that nature. But I think the visit definitely helped Arkansas. He really connected well with the other two official visitors Byron Hanspard and Curtis Dunlap. So I think it was a good experience. I think going forward he is going to look at visiting other schools. Matter of fact he is going to be making an unofficial visit for the LSU game next weekend."

Drew Amman: "Now you mentioned Dunlap and he is a guy up front, an o-lineman. He is a four star out of IMG Academy. What's the feeling, what's the sense you get as far as his recruiting goes?"

Richard Davenport: "His mother made the trip with him. They are leaving about 6:30-7 o'clock tonight. Hadn't been able to talk to him but everything I've heard was very positive from what I gather. It's down to Florida, which he is committed to, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Oregon. He's just a massive offensive lineman. Coach Anderson has really done a good job of staying on him. When he did commit to Florida back in July he stayed with him and was able to get him on campus. Curtis has a chance to play immediately as a freshman. I don't say that very much for offensive lineman but he definitely has the capability of doing that."

Drew Amman: "Still feeling pretty good as far as Byron Hanspard? You know we are talking about a guy who is committed to the Hogs. To get him as a TexHog here upcoming that would be huge for this program."

Richard Davenport: "No doubt and not only are you getting a great football player, but a great young man. He's a guy that would be a leader for this Razorback team in the future there's no doubt about it. He and his parents just fantastic people. But he really enjoyed being able to spend time with his future teammates. Chase Hayden was one of his hosts along with Chevin Calloway who obviously is from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He is even more enthusiastic about his commitment than he did before hand. He is just a tremendous athlete and a tremendous person."

Drew Amman: "Another guy from the 2018 class that is Maureese Wren. Interesting story here as he was re-offered by the Hogs because he wanted to play wideout."

Richard Davenport: "Yeah Arkansas got his commitment back in the summer as an outside linebacker. When he started playing again in the fall it was hard for him to think about playing anything but receiver. Arkansas continued to evaluate him and like him now as a receiver. They extended the offer. I think there is a very good chance that he visits Arkansas again officially. If that happens I like Arkansas' chances. He already is very familiar with the program."

Drew Amman: "Let's jump ahead now and close with Jadon Jackson because Jadon is a guy who is a wide receiver. He is from the 2019 class out of Bentonville. This guy is a pretty electrifying kid. What can you tell me more about his highlights and maybe his potential."

Richard Davenport: "You said that. Very electrifying. Of all the receivers I've seen over the years he may be the most talented. KJ Hill was very good and very elusive. But I'm not so sure he has the type of top end speed and burst that Jadon has. I saw him Friday night against Bentonville in that rivalry game. I was just so impressed with his ability to just have that sudden burst and get it to top speed very very quickly. I think he has a chance to be one of the better receivers to come out of Arkansas in quite some time."

Drew Amman: "Great insight from RD as always. From WholeHogSports, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Richard thanks very much. More of the Pigtrail after this."
