RN Recruiting: Lineman From Ohio on Arkansas' Radar

Fayetteville, AR-

Drew Amman

"Back on the Pigtrail Show and it is recruiting time. We are with our recruiting guy. That is Richard Davenport, as always, from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette and WholeHogSports. And RD, let's begin with Scott Pagano, a guy who has had his name in the news quite a bit. He is a Clemson Grad transfer, and Scott is a guy who is actually going to visit Arkansas, I understand on April 7th. Is that right?"

Richard Davenport

"April 7th through the 9th. I talked to his high school coach back in Hawaii, and they've been communicating quite a bit since he announced his intentions to move from Clemson, and he was just talking about how one of the reasons Scott picked Clemson was because of his comfort level with Dabo Swinney, and you he really talked more about life than football, and he really connected with Dabo. Well there is no doubt, you know, if you talk to Coach Bielema, he is very similar in his approach, and also about life beyond football, and I think that probably helped Arkansas get those visits that Scott plans to make. He plans to visit OU and Notre Dame before Arkansas, so obviously he'd fit in well with the 3-4 defense. He could play all 3 defensive line positions.

Drew Amman

"Okay, so Scott is a D tackle. Let's talk about a defensive end Dante Lang. He has an offer from Arkansas."

Richard Davenport

"He does. 6'5", 230 pounds, very athletic guy. Could play tight end or defensive end on the next level, but Arkansas is recruiting him as a defensive end. He is a guy that Coach Vernon Hargreaves has really gotten a good relationship with. As a matter of fact, he calls Coach Vernon Hargreaves his guy, so he plans to visit sometime this Spring."

Drew Amman

"Blaine Scott from Ohio. He has 29 offers. What about Blaine?"

Richard Davenport

"He recently narrowed his list of offers down to 13. Arkansas is one of them. He plans to visit Arkansas this Spring. He has a very good relationship with Coach Anderson and Coach Bielema. He visited last Summer. He really liked that he has two cousins that actually live in Fayetteville, and are big Razorback fans, so he is going to make his decision May 5th. On his birthday, so Arkansas is definitely still in the running."

Drew Amman

"Okay, so Blaine kind of narrowing things down here a bit. Alright, Keaontay Ingram, they are really high on this kid, from what I understand from Carthage, Texas. A running back. What about Reggie Mitchell and the guys. What do they think about this kid?"

Richard Davenport

"Man, I love this guy. You look at him, and he kind of reminds me of Alex Collins. His ability to make people miss at the line of scrimmage. Very quick feet, that can change directions in a dime, and then topping speed is very excellent, so very good. He's looking to visit Arkansas. He is definitely one of the top running back prospects in the nation."

Drew Amman

"Okay, let's go to hoops now and finish with Zhaire Smith, and I understand he is from the class of 2017. He is from Garland, Texas. He is a Wing. What about his recruiting process?"

Richard Davenport

"He and Scotty Thurman have been talking. Arkansas kind of has an in with him, because Zhaire's mother's side got to know Scotty long before he ever became a Razorback, back in Louisiana, so there is a big trust factor there. Plus, Zhaire likes Arkansas's up and down style of play. Very high energy guy. He is a guy  that reminds you a lot of former Razorbacks who really contributed and did well at Arkansas."

Drew Amman

"Yeah, Zhaire had to be impressed with yet another Arkansas victory on the road yesterday at Auburn. Much more on that throughout the week. RD, Richard Davenport, thanks very much. He is from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette and WholeHogSports. We are back with an interview from Athletes in Action, after this."
