RN Recruiting: Solid Run From Future Hogs in the Real Deal in the Rock

Little Rock, AR-

Richard Davenport (from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and WholeHog Sports) joins us from our KARK Studios in Little Rock:  Here's the transcription from that interview:

Drew Amman

"Back with more here on the PigTrail and as always we are joined in our recruiting report by Richard Davenport. RD spending a lot of time in the Capital City over the weekend and for good reason. Real Deal in the Rock a great event, and we're talking about the Hog 5 as they like to be called. All future Razorbacks, Isaiah Joe, Desi Sills, Ethan Henderson, Reggie Perry, and Justice Hill and these guys can certainly put on a show, and they've done it a lot of times for the Arkansas Hawks. What did you see this weekend Richard?"

Richard Davenport

"I saw a team, when I saw them in Vegas, back in July the last time they played together. I saw a team, it was like they never took a break. Their chemistry was still the same, maybe even better. It was pretty amazing because this was the first time they got back together since Vegas. The chemistry was there, They played so well together, obviously they know one another so well and their tendencies, but I tell you what, Reggie Perry took another jump in his game, his outside shot has improved, his midrange and he's hitting the three pointer a little more consistent than he was last summer. And then you get DJ Weaver who was added to this group of guys. DJ Weaver's a very highly regarded forward from Houston who joined them, who sat out his sophomore season with an ACL injury and came back as a junior and won a state championship. He's got an offer from Arkansas. He's a guy to keep an eye on because he really likes the chemistry of this team and that could go a long way in deciding whether he wants to be a Razorback or not."

 Drew Amman

"Again, a great event there in the Rock, the Real Deal in the Rock. Let's talk about football now and Arkansas had some guys visiting practice on Saturday in spring ball and let's begin with some guys from 2019. Grant Gunnell a quarterback out of Houston, TX. 6-5 203, he has an offer from the Razorbacks."

Richard Davenport

"That he does and Coach Bielema pretty much told him 'You're our guy for the 2019 class at the quarterback position. They will not offer another quarterback until he decides what he's gonna do. If they do offer, he said Coach Bielema was gonna give him a heads up. So, obviously he's a guy that they want on campus. He had a really good visit and was able to get to know the coaches a little bit more and see a little bit more of the campus."

Drew Amman

"Also looking at Jalen Curry, what's this guy look like? What can we expect from this guy? He's also out of the class of 2019."

Richard Davenport

"He's an outstanding receiver Coach Bielema offered yesterday. He had a really good visit, I think we was really surprised by what he saw. Again, a lot of these kids think that Arkansas is going to be country, pigs and chickens and everything like that, obviously it wasn't that way. He wants to come back and visit in the summer."

Drew Amman

"Alright, now to Grayson Boomer, he's also from the class of 2019. You'd think with a name like Boomer he'd be bound to play for Oklahoma, all things considered, but this guy is a tight end that sounds like Arkansas is high on. Is that right?"

Richard Davenport

"Definitely, Coach Bielema extended an offer to him. He and Curry were the two guys that got offers yesterday. He had an outstanding visit. He wants to come back soon in the near future. He loves how Arkansas utilizes the tight end position. I think that's gonna go a long ways in helping Arkansas. He's very high on Arkansas after the visit."

Drew Amman

"Alright, lets go up front and talk about the big nasties a little bit. Focusing on Darius Thomas, he is an offensive tackle out of Jonesboro, 6-6."

Richard Davenport

"Extremely athletic kid who Arkansas recently offered. He's really just starting to accumulate several offers, Auburn Georgia are some of his latest offers. He's 6-6 308 very very quick feet. He has everything you're looking for in an offensive tackle."

Drew Amman

"To the class of 2018 now, we're talking about Will Burgess and he is an offensive tackle as well. He is from Arkansas, he's 6-4 340 Richard."

Richard Davenport

"He's a mountain of a kid and very very strong and good athleticism. A lot of people don't know about him but Arkansas does. I think, he visited yesterday and Coach Bielema and Coach Anderson want him to come to camp in June. I think he has a high possibility of getting an offer from Arkansas in the near future."

Drew Amman

"Ok about 20 seconds on Owen Condon, he's from Oklahoma City, 6-7 300 he's a 3 star recruit."

Richard Davenport

"He visited for the Florida game back in the fall, he brought his mom this time, had an outstanding visit. Arkansas is definitely in contention for him. He said he plans to make a decision not far off and Arkansas definitely helped themselves yesterday."

Drew Amman

"Alright, great stuff as always Richard Davenport from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Whole Hog Sports.  We're back with more from Big Skip, Dan Skipper right after this."
