Two Razorbacks Trying To Qualify For Walmart NW Arkansas Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Two more University of Arkansas women’s golfers have a chance to play with the pros when Regina Plasencia and Summar Roachell try to play their way in with the Monday qualifier for the Walmart LPGA NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G.
Tee times begin at 1 p.m. Monday.

Proving the best is yet to come, sophomore Plasencia had a solid four-events kicking off her second season of college golf last fall. A fifth-place finish at the NCAA Preview with a two-under 208 saw her start strong. Plasencia was two-under again at the rain-shortened Mercedes Benz tying for second overall.  Rounds of 217 at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational and 215 at the Alamo Invitational rounded out the fall for Plasencia.

She moved into the spring with solid finishes in all six events.  Plasencia tied for 11th overall at the Liz Murphey Collegiate.  She opened with a stroke play one-over 73 and won three matches in match play competition helping Arkansas to a runner-up finish.  Plasencia was selected to the SEC All-Second-Team this year.

Roachell wasted no time in having an impact on the Razorback women's golf team. The true freshman competed in all four events this fall helping Arkansas to a four top six finishes and one team title. Her best finish was a tie for 19th at the rain-shortened Mercedes Benz with rounds of 72-74 for 146. She carded an eight-over 224 at the Alamo Invite matching her best round, 72, on the final day.

Rochelle took her success into the spring with solid finishes in ever tournament.  In her first NCAA Regional event, Roachell was the team’s low score in the first round and finished the week with a 12-overl 228 to tie for 38th overall.  Her spring ended with Roachell shooting 75.63 with 4.04 score versus par in her first season.
Summar is coming off a win at the AWGA Match Play Championship last week.
“Regina and Summar will have an opportunity to get into the event via the Monday qualifier,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said.  “They will be teeing it up with other conditional LPGA members for a few spots available in the event.  They are both so excited for this qualifier and I fully expect both of them to be in the mix for those spots.  They both have worked extremely hard and it is an invaluable experience for them as they both want to pursue golf as their career post-graduation.”

The duo join Gabriela Lopez and Emily Tubert who received sponsor’s exemptions and former Razorback Stacy Lewis, the Rolex World’s No. 1 player.
