Defensive Line Dominates Recruiting Report

Drew Amman

Let's get to recruiting now and our recruiting guy from WholeHogSports and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. That's RD, Richard Davenport. Richard let's begin with someone from the class of 2018 and we are talking about cornerback Eddie Smith. It's my understanding he got an offer from coach Chad Morris back on December 18th."

Richard Davenport

"That he did. I tell you what I was really impressed Mark Smith who is the recruiting coordinator for Coach Morris at SMU got on him and got him to commit to visit Arkansas just in a matter of days. He is visiting Arkansas January 26th. You've got to give coach Smith a lot of credit there developing a good relationship. Eddie feels really wanted by Arkansas because of that relationship. He is a guy that has visited Fayetteville before as a sophomore.  He kind of know what he is getting into before the visit.  But obviously a few things have changed since a few years ago. He is very excited and he is definitely way up on Arkansas' board."

Drew Amman

"Okay another guy who has an offer from Chad Morris and he got that offer back on December 31st. That is Dorian Gerald and he is a defensive end. What can you tell me about him in the trenches."

Richard Davenport

"I tell you what he is one of the better stories that I have come across in a long time. He is a guy that didn't have any offers coming out of high school. He put up some really impressive numbers in high school. No offers, went to prep school. Had another good season, no offers. Got frustrated, even thought about giving up football. Went to junior college now he is the number one defensive end in the country. Like you said Arkansas recently offered him. He told me on my radio show Thursday night Arkansas has a good chance of getting an official visit. He is a guy that has worked extremely hard to get where he is. He is very mature. That is one thing you really notice when you are talking to him.  His appreciation of his opportunities is way up there."

Drew Amman

"Well I can appreciate the uniqueness of the next guy we are talking about that is Nick Fulwider. This guy is 6-7. I can't wait to see this guy on campus.    What about Nick and the fact he signed with the Razorbacks back on December 22nd?"

Richard Davenport

"I tell you what he is a good looking defensive end. Could play inside. Only time will tell once he gets on campus. But he is a guy that you've got to give John Scott Jr. a lot of credit, the former defensive line coach. He got on him  and got him to visit. He and his mother, his mother was apprehensive at first because  of the distance between Georgia and Arkansas. But once they got on campus during the summer they fell in love. Obviously they had the coaching change. Bobby Allen took over his recruiting. They eventually visited Arkansas a couple of weeks ago and he was sold. Obviously he signed with Arkansas. He is a guy, a high character kid and he has a high ceiling."

Drew Amman

"Okay, John Mincey this guy also plays up front on the d-line. I understand that Bobby Allen and Chad Morris had a chance to visit that guy. Tell me more about John and where Arkansas is in the recruiting process with John Mincey."

Richard Davenport

"Well he committed to Arkansas obviously back in the summer to Coach Bielema and coach Scott. But you've got to give coach Morris and coach Allen a lot of credit. They seem like they've kind of soothed his nerves about Arkansas a little bit. But I think he is a guy, I feel good about Arkansas holding onto him and eventually signing him on February 7th. He is a freakish athlete, 6-4, 265. Runs about a 4.7.  He plays basketball too. The other night he had 12 points, like 7 or 8 rebounds and two blocks.  So he is very athletic even on the basketball court."

Drew Amman

"Okay Myles Mason is a safety. He received an offer from Chad Morris on December 14th. This guy has a certain history to him from the standpoint that his dad played in the NFL. Also brings four star credentials and I also understand Myles is highly talented."

Richard Davenport

"That he is. He visited Arkansas a couple of weeks ago too.  You've got to give coach Joe Craddock a lot of credit. He visited the school on Thursday and Myles committed to visit that weekend.  Basically in one day. That is very impressive to get a kid to visit basically in 48 hours. So that is really big. He is 6-2, 205.  He looks like an outside linebacker that plays the safety position. He could be one of those guys that could be 215 at some point and be one of the those intimidators in the defensive backfield."

Drew Amman

"That doesn't surprise me how fast moving Craddock and Morris have been to this point as well as the other guys he is bringing in from SMU or wherever. Alright that is RD, Richard Davenport doing a great job for us in our recruiting process and our recruiting report. Back with more on the Pig Trail. We will talk about Arkansas women's hoops after this."
