Joshua Myers - Storm Spotter

Joshua Myers grew up in NW Arkansas, but he also spent a couple years living just outside of Joplin, Missouri and four years living in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He joined the KNWA/FOX24 Storm Spotting Team in March 2013.

Joshua has had a passion for weather and meteorological studies ever since he was 8 years old. Seeing the power of storms and tornadoes in books, TV severe weather coverage, and in science shows such as NOVA on PBS helped spark his interest and passion for weather. He had a couple close calls with tornadic storms passing near his home while growing up and begged his father to let him chase, but he was unable to. As soon as he could drive, he was chasing any storms that came thru NW Arkansas and NE Oklahoma.  He had his first successful tornado intercept on May 10th, 2008 near Bentonville, Arkansas as he came within a half mile and captured footage of an EF-1 tornado as it touched down in the Bentonville area.

After seeing the devastation of what the EF-5 tornado did to the community of Joplin, Missouri on May 22nd, 2011, which he had come to know so well during his time living there, his drive to be a public servant during severe weather events was amplified.  He has chased storms in Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas and has seen several tornadoes.  His two favorite chase days was on March 18th, 2012 as a photogenic low precipitation supercell produced several tornadoes in the open fields of SW Oklahoma.  Then he captured the beautiful Rozel, Kansas tornado on May 18th, 2013.  His other interests while not chasing storms involve photography, traveling, cooking, paintball, taking care of his aquariums, and watching Sci-Fi TV programs.
