Accent Blinds & Shutters: Window Cord Safety

Ask the Expert
Cord Safety

Everyone wants a great window treatment but if you have small children, cords can be a big safety concern.

The Window Covering Safety Council urges parents and caregivers to check all windows for potential cord hazards.

Install only cordless window coverings in your bedrooms and sleeping areas for young children.

Move all cribs, beds, furniture, and toys away from windows and cords. Keep all window pull cords and inter lift cords out of children’s reach. Make sure that tasseled pull cords are short and continuous-loop cords permanently anchored    to  the floor or wall. Cord stops must be properly installed and adjusted to limit the movement of inner lift cords.
Lock cords into position whenever horizontal blinds or shades are lowered, including when they come to rest on a window sill.

If you aren’t sure how to secure your blind cords give us a call we can guide you through the process or help you get the accessories you need to keep your little ones safe.
