The Jones Center opened its doors 20 years ago, and has served countless families with a variety of activities.
The center works to foster an environment of inclusiveness and continues to serve the community.
“It feels like you’re free and you’re flying,” ten-year-old ice figure skater Eva Troast described when asked about why she loves being out on the ice.
Ice skating is one of the world’s most beloved sports. And the Jones Center puts the joy of competing within the reach of the future champions of Northwest Arkansas. Francesca Troast tells us her daughter Eva skated a bit before the family moved to the area, but now she trains more competitively.
“She [Eva] started lessons in January and evolved so quickly, with the private lessons, that she was able to perform in the May competition that they held here,” Francesca Troast explained.
The Jones Center is a facility that founder Bernice Jones wanted all to be welcome at. It’s also a place that provides athletics facilities and classes at a lower cost to make sure children get a chance to realize their full potential. That’s one of the reasons why Eva’s coach Jennifer Kelly says the Jones Center is so special.
“You can see the enthusiasm and the smiles on their faces and how proud they are of themselves and their parents are proud of them as well,” Kelly shared. “So making a difference is important.”
Eva tells us Coach Kelly is great at motivating her to try harder and to accomplish the goals they set for her performance.
“She [Kelly] is very, very good at teaching,” Eva Troast boasted about her coach. “I have learned a lot from her.”
“I have been so impressed with the consistency and care of the coaching and how they propel these students to do their best,” said Francesca Troast.
The Jones Center offers a multitude of recreation and fitness programs for folks of all ages. You can learn more about those by clicking here.
