Nearly 64,000 food insecure people live in Northwest Arkansas and 20,000 of them are under the age of 18.
But now you have the chance to help fight food insecurity in our area.
Arvest Bank’s Million Meals initiative is hoping to lower those numbers by challenging community members in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley to help provide at least one million meals to local, hungry families in our area.
It’s the volunteers and donations from our community that help make a big impact on non-profits like the Salvation Army.
“What that means is children that are on free and reduced lunches are not going to be getting those breakfast and lunch meals. If they are getting them, that’s just putting extra strain on those families who rely on those meals throughout the year so food pantries like our client choice food pantry have programs that are designed for these kids. The million meals campaign supports those kinds of efforts,” Capt. Josh Robinett with the Salvation Army says.
To donate, drop off non-perishable food items or make monetary donations at any of the Arvest locations.
Every dollar raised through Million Meals provides the equivalent of five meals for those in need.
