The Lambda Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated will host its 25th Anniversary Michelle Wilson Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, April 29, 2017 starting at 9:00 am, beginning at Old Main Lawn.
The theme for this year: ” Fighting Lupus One Step at A Time” which signifies the life of Michelle Wilson.
University of Arkansas alum & Delta Sigma Theta member, Michelle Wilson, died in 1992 of systemic lupus. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of various parts of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys. This disease affects one out of every 185 Americans; women being affected 10 times more frequently than men.
The Lambda Theta Chapter is dedicated to bringing informationbarriers by promoting public awareness of lupus. Along with promoting lupus awareness, the purpose of the walk is to support the efforts of the Lupus Foundation and provide scholarships in the name of Michelle Wilson.
Currently, the scholarship awards two students an endowment to aid in their pursuit of higher education. in 2017, celebrating its 25th year, the organization will give out scholarships to deserving students, and make a contribution to the National Lupus Foundation to further their outreach to fight against Lupus!
